Book Editing
I provide content editing (aka developmental editing) and line editing for novels.
Content editing is designed to identify and resolve the most pressing issues within your manuscript, from plot holes to pacing issues, structural flaws, and characterisation issues. It also looks at how your writing style pairs with the other elements of your manuscript and makes a range of recommendations for improving your writing. That might mean focusing on how to write more distinctive dialogue, addressing cadence issues, showing vs telling, narrative voice, specificity of language, among all sorts of potential considerations.
Line editing goes one step further, providing margin-level notes and suggestions on a line by line basis. The focus here is stylistic, so this type of editing is best done after a content edit or once you are fully content with the major plot, structure, pacing questions above.
My editing style focuses on showing you both what's effective in your book as well as where there's room for improvement. Writing anything is a brave endeavour, and while I promise to be frank and honest in my feedback, I am also generous with praise where it is due. With my help, you'll come away feeling empowered to do more of what you do well, and with a sharpened toolkit to address the parts you find difficult.
Pricing is by word-count and depends on the depth of the edit (content vs line editing; whether it includes chapter by chapter feedback or just at the overall level). Please enquire for more info.
For historical fiction, please refer enquiries to work with me through The History Quill, where I edit full manuscripts, act as a tutor for the group coaching programme, and provide live critique services for the membership. For other genres, especially literary fiction, mystery, thriller & suspense, fantasy, and sci-fi, please contact me directly.
